Abstract

BSTRACT
Heriani. SID. 2020010106006. EFL Pre-Service Teachers’ Perception of Readiness
to Teach in Real Classroom. Supervised by: Ilfan Askul Pehala, S.Pd., M.Hum. and
Dewi Atikah, M.A. TESOL.
This case study analyzes pre-service English as a Foreign Language (EFL)
teachers’ readiness to teach during their teaching practices. The participants were
six pre-service teachers who had completed their field-teaching practice at a high
school in Kendari, Indonesia. Questionnaires, reflections, and semi-structured
interviews were used to obtain qualitative data for this study. The data analysis
showed that four types of indicators could measure teacher readiness in a real
classroom: subject matter knowledge, instructional representations and strategies,
instructional objects and context, and knowledge of students' understanding. Pre-
service teachers felt confident about delivering the subject matter because of their
deep knowledge. Regarding instructional representations and strategies, they
assessed the use of various teaching strategies and representations to positively
impact learning processes. Additionally, regarding instructional objects and
context, teachers adapted their teaching strategies to align with the learning
objectives, fostered a positive learning environment, displayed confidence and
positive attitudes, and demonstrated effective classroom management skills.
Concerning the knowledge of students' understanding, teachers believed that
students understood the material well. The findings show that teachers have good
readiness to teach during teaching practice (PLP II). The results have pedagogical
implications for the development of EFL pre-service teacher training programs in
terms of secondary teaching practice.
