Abstract
ABSTRACT
Muh. Ridho Disyam. SID. 18010106005. EFL Pre-Service Teachers‟ Expectations of
Mentoring Support During Field Teaching Practice. Supervised by: Sarjaniah Zur,

This qualitative study aims to discover the EFL pre-service teachers‟
expectations of mentoring support from teacher mentors during field teaching
practice program. The study was conducted at one of the Islamic state institutes in
Southeast Sulawesi, and employed ten EFL pre-service teachers by using written
reflections. Through thematic analysis, ten sub-themes emerge in this study, i.e.,
expectation of trust, expectation of motivation, expectation of well-interaction,
expectation of guidance, expectation of academic concern, expectation of
academic support, and expectation of feedback and expectation of teachers‟
model. This study suggests future researchers are advised to strengthen the
findings of this study by combine the pre-service teachers‟ expectation and
experience of receiving mentoring support from teacher mentor in teaching
practice program. The present study implies that the nature, types, and examples
of mentoring support provided by the teacher mentor for the pre-service teacher
should be introduced and discussed with the institution, expert teachers, and
teachers educators on how to develop various kinds of mentoring support, how to
apply it in the teaching field, to what the benefits of it for the teacher and the pre
service teacher specifically, even for the long-term impact to the teacher, students,
or an institution. Thus, future pre-service teachers can apply knowledge about this
and know how to overcome obstacles faced by a teacher both in teaching
activities in the classroom or outside the classroom.
