Abstract

Aulia Ikhsan SID. 16010106061. Students‟ Responses to the Implementation of
Mind Mapping in Speaking. Supervised by: Abdul Halim, M. TESOL.
This case study aims to investigate students' responses to the implementation of
the mind mapping strategy in speaking class. The researcher chooses three
participants from the second semester of the English Department of Class A in the
academic years 2020–2021 by purposive sampling. Data were collected by using
students‟ reflections to gain information about the use of mind mapping. In
analyzing the data, the researcher begins with creating and organizing the data,
then reading and making notes, classifying or coding, and grouping the data. This
study revealed two aspects of the students‟ response to the implementation of the
mind mapping strategy in speaking class that were effective and interesting. In the
effectiveness aspect, students revealed that mind mapping made them easier to
generate ideas or information when they wanted to speak, while in the interesting
aspect, they revealed that they could create mind mapping based on their
creativity, such as adding a line, shape, or color.
