Abstract

ABSTRACT
Nurul Hidayah. SID. 18010106011. EFL Pre-service Teachers’ Experiences of
Teaching English to Community during COVID-19 Pandemic. Supervised by:
Isna Humaera, S.Ag., S.Pd., M.Pd. and Nur Hasanah Safei, M.Pd.
This study aims to investigate the experiences of EFL pre-service teachers
in teaching English to the community during the COVID-19 pandemic. Data were
collected through written reflections which were distributed via Google Forms
and shared using the WhatsApp application, then using semi-structural interviews
to obtain more detailed and accurate information from four EFL pre-service
teachers in the English education department. Data were analyzed using thematic
analysis methods by qualitatively transcribing and coding the data for later
analysis. After in-depth research, this study found that EFL pre-service teachers
have different views about the experience of teaching English in this community.
Teaching English to the community has been proven to provide positive benefits
for EFL pre-service teachers, namely, a place to train pre-service teacher teaching
skills. This study uses themes such as trends and community learning during
COVID-19, the emotional feeling of teaching English during Covid-19, Major's
contributions in the field, teaching in response to challenges, and the advantages
of teaching English to the community. This study implies to teacher educators and
institutions that the long-term development of pre-service teachers is critical to the
long-term success of educational programs. This program can be beneficial for
EFL pre-service teachers to have digital literacy and mental training to get
problem-solving independently. This research can be a reference for teaching
lecturers to continue to hold teaching practice experience programs in any
situation, including the critical period of the pandemic. Training and improving
the teaching skills of EFL pre-service teachers is very important.
