Abstract

ABSTRACT
Ramlah SID 18010106071. “Pre-Service Teachers‟ Belief on the Utilization of
Instructional Media in Teaching EFL Classroom” Supervised by: Suhartini Syukri
S.Pd.I., S.Pd., M.Pd. and Azwar Abidin, M.Pd.
This study aimed to identify the beliefs of pre-service teachers on the utilization of
instructional media in teaching EFL (English Foreign Language). The study was
conducted at one of the universities in Southeast Sulawesi, with data gathered
from eight students as pre-service teachers. Reflection was used to obtain the data
and FGD (Focus Group discussion) as a data triangulation step to explore the data
that has been obtained from the reflection results. Through the thematic analysis
method, the data was analyzed qualitatively. The finding revealed that there are
three types of media utilized in teaching practice, namely audio-visual, projected
visual, and non-projected visual media. In addition, the source belief of pre�service teachers, established practice, experience as a language learner,
educationally-based or research-based principle, and principle derived from an
approach or method. This study also revealed that the purpose of the utilization of
instructional media is to present materials in a manner learners readily assimilate,
motivate students toward a goal, gain and maintain learners' attention on the
subject matter, and gain students' participation.
