Abstract

ABSTRACT
Riskiyani. SID. 16010106054. Students‟ Response toward Pair Work Activity in
Speaking Class. Supervised by: Suhartini Syukri, S.Pd.I, S.Pd, M.Pd.
This research intends to investigate the students‟ response toward pair work
activity in speaking class. The participants in this research consist of 21 English
Education Departement students academic year 2019/2020, which has been
conducted in one of higher education in Kendari. The data in this research were
analyzed qualitatively by questionnaire in Lickert scale form. The result of this
research showed that the responses of the students were positive toward the pair
work activity in speaking class on the three dimentions of cognitive, affective, and
conative. It was found that pair work brings positive influences in the process of
learning speaking. In the dimension of cognitive, the average of students‟ response
on the students‟ understanding indicator (80%), students‟ response on the indicator
of the clarity of learning instruction procured average about (69%), on the affective
dimension, students‟ response to the indicator of motivation (84%), Indicator
students‟ interest was high (78%), in indicator of students‟ curiosity in the class
(78%), indicator of the activeness in asking (69%), responding to lecturer‟s queries
(70%). By applying pair work, it helps students more motivated, interested,
understood lesson, curious, and actively participate in learning. However, lecturer
must have variation in pairing learners, so students would not be bored, and always
enjoyed learning.
