Abstract

Nur Fajrah SID 19010106052. English Teachers' Closure Activity Strategies in
English Classroom: EFL Pre-service Teachers' Observational Experiences.
Supervised by: Dr. Sitti Nurfaidah, S.Pd., M.Ed. and Sarjaniah Zur, S.Pd.I., M.Pd.

This case study aims to identify how the teacher ends the class in an
English classroom instructional context based on the observational experiences of
EFL pre-service teachers during their first field teaching practice. The data in this
study is drawn from eighteen EFL pre-service teachers' reflective focus group
discussions (FGD) and semi-structured interviews via the Zoom and WhatsApp
applications. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The results of the
data analysis revealed that there are seven closure activity strategies in the English
classroom, including reflection; coming attraction; wrap-up summary; reward,
which consist of verbal and non-verbal reward; motivation; games; and quiz. This
inquiry found that teachers frequently employ wrap-up summary activity in their
classroom procedure. This study could specifically increase teachers' awareness of
the kinds of closure activity strategies in English classroom that they can integrate
these closure strategies in their class because it is hoped that later it will be
directed to the desired learning objectives.
