Abstract

Sela Dian Camelia SID. 15010106042. Challenges in Speaking Skills: EFL Student
Narratives. Supervised by: Abdul Halim, S.Pd., M. TESOL., and Suhartini Syukri,
S. Pd.I., S.Pd., M.Pd.
This qualitative study aims to describe and analyze the challenges in
speaking skills as an ELF student narratives. Data collection techniques were
carried out by personal reflection. Data were collected from researcher’s personal
reflection and archive. Data were analyzed using narrative approach so that the
presented story can be consecutive and easy to understand. The results showed that
the challenges in speaking skills as an ELF student narratives including practice
speaking English in doing interactive speaking, partially interactive speaking
activity, non-interactive activity, the level of fluency in speaking and the use of the
internet in the process of learning to speak, moreover in terms of speaking
comprehension and difficulty in speaking. This study provides suggestion for the
higher institution to create a better orientation for the freshman and to prepare the
students with global understanding.
