Abstract

The major purpose of this study is to identify the EFL students’ experiences in
reading and speaking skills in learning English. The data in this study conducted
of the students in the 2022 academic year majoring in English Education at one
of the university in Southeast Sulawesi. The participants were drawn from six
EFL students majoring in English Education. The researcher choose the students
by purposive sampling because the researcher reflected on his experience about
reading and speaking skills. This study employs a qualitative approach to
explain a phenomenon in depth through in-depth data. The instruments in this
study including reflections and interviews to gather comprehensive data from EFL
students. The findings showed that the reading and speaking skills in EFL
students narratives in learning English including difficulties in comprehending
reading materials, the attention of students in learning reading, difficulties in
comprehending speaking materials, and the ways to help in learning English. This
research contributes to a deeper understanding of language learning processes and
provides insights into effective pedagogical strategies for enhancing these
essential language skills.
