Abstract

ABSTRACT
Wahyuni SID 15010106003. Challenges Faced by EFL Student Teachers
During the Teaching Practicum. Supervised by: Abdul Halim,S.Pd.,
MA.TESOL and Sarjaniah Zur S.Pd, M.Pd
This study aimed to investigate the challenges faced by EFL student
teachers during the teaching practicum. This research employed a qualitative
approach using reflective journals with a descriptive method. The data are drawn
from thirty-four English education students in the sixth semester enrolled in the
teaching practicum program of the academic year 2020/2021. The researcher
collected the results of their reflections through Microsoft Word documents that
have been shared by the researcher before for fill-in. Then, those reflective
journals were analyzed by using thematic analysis adapted from Braun and Clarke
(2006). The results of this research revealed that student teachers‟ experienced
several challenges during their teaching practicum program. This can be proven
by the discovery of several challenges, there was the problem of, insufficiencyof
instructional, challenges related to classroom management, difficulties with
developing lesson plans and materials, learners not interested to learn, poor
internet networks and limited quota, and challenges relatedto time management.
For further research, it is recommended to find out what types of courses are
needed to help EFL student teachers prepare for practical teaching experience
during their preparatory years at teacher training colleges.
